Our audience
To further explore our people’s attitudes and feelings towards their own career journey and for potential candidates, we conducted an internal focus group session.
Below sets out the audience we reached out to and the following pages provide a snippet to their feedback.
Our audience.
What is important to students when considering an organisation to join?
The
social opportunities
as often students are comparing this to going to University. Also
diversity and inclusion
, what are the firm doing in this area
Its important for students to feel
the strength and support of a company's culture.
Many may be embarking on their first corporate experience and would like to feel supported through this transition.
Feeling welcomed
and like they
belong.
I spoke with a current student before applying
and I would say this was 100% the deciding factor. He spoke so
openly and positively about the experience he had so far with EY
and this really helped me take the leap. I would encourage for this to be a standard part of the consideration process as it really allowed me to ask open questions.
I think it
is important for an organisation to show that they are welcoming.
For most applicants they will not have had a full-time job which can be quite daunting when applying for positions.
Internal Focus Group 1: May 2021
Reflecting on when you were looking to apply, what did you want to know from potential employers?
Internal Focus Group 1: May 2021
I was keen to know the kind of
opportunities
I would be exposed to, the kind of
people & clients
I would be working with, the
level of responsibility
I would be offered and the
long term prospects/career path for the role & team
I was interested in.
A greater understanding of what
the day to day process
would be of the sub-service line I was joining, and the implications of joining a particular service line.
More insights on the
company strategy, culture, day to day responsibility, learning opportunity
and any recommendations.
The
level of responsibility
I would have going into the job and how
studying whilst working would actually be structured.
I would want to know more about
exam support,
it was extremely difficult in the first few months to manage our way through the exam process and a heads up on how that works would be great.
Progression would be another huge one, I would have
liked to have known how you move from staff-senior-manager etc
and what is required at each stage.
Opportunities within EY to
support the recruitment team during events and committees
to join.
Examples of what you may be doing
during your early career and the
professional development opportunities.
