The first NCoE was established in the US in 2016 and has grown to over 350 technologists across 7 countries (July 2022). The technologists are aligned to fueling innovation and technology across artificial intelligence, data analytics, automation, blockchain and cyber.
The first centre for the UK was set up in January 2022 in Manchester. The first cohort is a team of seven technologists who are focused on data analytics and data science projects both internally and with our clients.
The NCoE embraces ways of working differently, provides support for the person to work at their best, offers a varied workload and opportunities to learn. When possible we matches an individual’s strengths to projects. The team are supported day to day by a manager who has experience of supporting individuals with a wide range of adjustments and who demonstrate proactive allyship, or of course may even be neurodivergent themselves. They work with the individual to understand strengths but also identifies areas where they may need additional support at work.
What is Neurodiversity and why is important to us?
At EY we use the language neurodiversity to describe the umbrella term that includes all cognitive variations encompassing both neurodivergent and neurotypical individuals.
Neurodivergent (or Neurodifference) refers to the variety of cognitive variations in the human brain that impacts an individual’s ability to learn and process information. These include autism, dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and others. In the NCoE we do not require a formal diagnosis as we understand the challenges that this might present to obtain one.
The term Neurotypical describes individuals who display ‘typical’ cognitive thinking, and it applies to the majority who do not have neurological variations.
At EY we embrace Neurodiversity. In team it enables a variety of different ways of thinking and processing information to achieve the best outcome. Learning to harness everyone’s strengths, regardless of cognitive variation, will positively benefit both employers and employees.
